The National Red Bull-sponsored Half-Court basketball tournament is set to start in Lagos on August 13, 2022, and the Nile University basketball team has expressed optimism in their chances there. In July, after starting off as underdogs and going undefeated, the squad won the regional basketball championship and qualified to represent the FCT.
Nile University basketball team’s head coach, Mr. Hamza Abubakar, said his team has what it takes to not only win the championship but also to begin a winning streak. Nile Spartans won the regional championship in July after putting in a lot of effort and defeating challenging opponents.
The Nile University Team is one of the eight state champions that made it out of the more than 300 teams that registered nationwide and the over 50 teams that competed on the campus in July. They will be playing for the 3/3 Basketball National Championship Title at the Upbeat Center in Lekki, Lagos State.
The winner of this country’s quickest street ball championship, according to main sponsor Red Bull, will represent Nigeria at the 2022 World Basketball Finals in Egypt.
