Nile University Holds Mentoring Program for Students

The Economics Department and a division of the Student Affairs Department of Nile University of Nigeria hosted a career program tagged: “Climbing the Corporate Ladder as an Economist”. The invited guest speaker at the event was Mr. Adenuga Adeniyi (Deputy Director & Head, Macro Economic Modeling Division (Research Dept.) CBN, Abuja).

The program started with an opening remark by Mrs. Fausat Aleshinloye (Director, Student Affairs). She appreciated the guest speaker for honoring the invitation and indicated that the purpose of the program was to get a prominent economist who will serve as a mentor to Economics students who are to be future shapers of the Nigerian economy.

Following Mrs. Fausat opening remarks, the invited guest, Mr. Adenuga, gave a presentation on career building. In his presentation, he mentioned that an economic degree is meant to prepare students for career paths that require numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills which will make them qualified for jobs in areas that includes data diagnostics, identifying financial risk, managing decisions about whether a company or government should invest its reserve in the future or even in making financial policies.

In conclusion, the guest speaker gave some career building tips which includes hard work and focus on their studies, building critical skills, personal brand development, staying current in their field of study and building a good network.

The program ended with an interactive session.
