Nile University Empowers its Alumni to Start Successful Businesses with Startup Day Program

The Alumni Relations Department of Nile University of Nigeria hosted its first edition of the Startup Day on March 12.  The Startup Day program was designed to provide an avenue for Nile University’s alumni to learn the skills and information required to successfully launch a business from industry professionals. To this effect, the event featured accomplished individuals from various reputable organizations in the country as speakers. They included Dr. Abubakar Dahiru (National Information Technology Development Agency), Mr. Osita Nwanisobi (Central Bank of Nigeria), Miss Lolade Awogbade (Development Bank of Nigeria), Mr. Kings Jack (Bank of Industry), Mrs. Oche (Bank of Agriculture), Mr. Mohammed Yazid Aliyu (Corporate Affairs Commission), Mr. Emomotimi Agama (Security and Exchange Commission), Mr. Ikyumior I. Israel (Small Media Enterprise Development Agency), and Dr. Lawrence Akande (Nirsal Microfinance Bank).  

The event started with an opening remark by Nile University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Osman Nuri Aras, who expressed his desire that the program will accomplish its goal of helping the aspiring entrepreneurs present to build successful enterprises. Following the VC’s opening speech was the discussion session during which the representatives from the different organizations invited for the program gave the audience important tips for starting a successful business. 

Some of the topics discussed in this regard included how to source for funds, loans, and grants from the relevant organizations, how to build a team, the importance of mentorship, etc. The event ended with an interactive question and answer session.
