Nile University’s senior management team recently paid a courtesy visit to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). The visit was aimed at appreciating the Council for the immense support it has provided to Nile University over the years. Nile University’s delegation comprised Mr. John Vermaaten (Pro-Chancellor; Chairman, Governing Council), Prof. Dilli Dogo (Vice-Chancellor), Mr. David Olowola (Registrar), Prof. Dileep Kumar (Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Mr. Lateef Kareem (Chief Financial Officer), Mr. Jonathan Okharedia (Chief Operating Officer; Director, Human Resources), Prof. Saleh Abdullahi (Director, Academic Planning), and Mr. Gerald Osugo (Director, Business Development and Strategy).
Delivering the introductory remark, Prof. Dilli Dogo thanked the MDCN Chairman, Prof. Abba Waziri Hassan, OON and the Council’s Registrar, Prof. Tajudeen Sanusi, and the entire host team for accepting to receive the Nile University on such short notice despite their tight schedules. He stated that the visit was occasioned by the desire of the University’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the new Governing Council, Mr. Vermaaten, to personally appreciate the guidance and support the Council has consistently given the university to perform its duties credibly. Prof. Dogo further stated that he sees the Council as a true partner and pledged the commitment of the proprietor of the university to continue to abide by the high expectations of the MDCN to meet its development objectives as the University strives to provide world-class medical education to its students.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Council, Prof. Hassan, expressed his excitement about the meeting with the Nile University team. He commended the University for its commitment to academic excellence and its impressive facilities which, according to him, make Nile University the country’s flagship private university. Prof. Hassan emphasized that he was at Nile University to personally oversee the University’s development firsthand when he led the NUC accreditation to the University last year. Prof. Hassan stated that with the giant strides Nile University is making toward training world-class medical graduates, the University can always count on the Council’s support to deliver on its objectives and goals.
Responding, Prof. Dogo expressed his gratitude for the support and confidence reposed in Nile University by the Council dating back to his early days as Provost of the University’s College of Health Sciences. The guidance and advice provided by the Council over the years, he continued, assisted in the transformation of the College into one of the leading providers of medical education in the country. He thanked the Council for increasing the admission quota for the University’s undergraduate Medicine program from 50 to 100 and solicited more support.
In his remarks, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Mr. John Vermaaten, thanked the Council for their warm reception and pledged that Nile University will continue to earn the faith of the Council by not only improving in infrastructure and training but also abiding by the strict regulations of the Council. He stated that Honoris United Universities is dedicated to making the necessary investments to drive the growth of all programs in the College of Health Sciences and the university as a whole.
The Registrar of the Council, Prof. Tajudeen Sanusi, in his remarks, commended Nile University for constantly abiding by the Council’s quality assurance standards and promised its continuous support to the University. He further stated that based on the track record of achievement in Nile University, he was not surprised that Prof. Dogo was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of this great University and he believes that Prof. Dogo’s presence at the helm of affairs would further hasten the growth and development of Nile University.
