May 11, 2022— Nile University’s Department of Economics successfully organized the 1st edition of its Postgraduate Seminar Series. The event was hosted by the Head of the Department, Prof. Jide Oladipo, and was presented by two alumni of the Department, Dr. Emomotimi John Agama and Mrs. Aisha Yahaya Ndanitsa.

Delivering the opening address, Prof. Jide Oladipo welcomed all the participants to the event and highlighted the importance of the event to the staff and students of the Department. He encouraged all the participants to pay rapt attention to the discussions and promised to organize more of such intellectual engagements in the coming months. Prof. Oladipo emphasized that events of this kind are not only for knowledge sharing but also aimed at providing feedback mechanisms to evaluating what the Department represents.

Following Prof. Oladipo’s remarks, the presenters, Dr. Agama and Mrs. Ndanitsa, took turns to showcase what they learned during their postgraduate programme and enlightened the attendees (which comprised predominantly Master’s and PhD students) on the requisite procedures, steps, and tips (PST) to graduate in record time.

Presenting goodwill messages and words of encouragement, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Prof. Gylych Jelilov, and the Director of General Studies, Prof. Ben Akanegbu, thanked the Head of the Economics Department for the initiative and for his ingenuity in moving the Department to greater heights. Similarly, the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Ebele Amali thanked Prof. Oladipo, the presenters, staff, and students of the Department for making the event a huge success. She acknowledged Dr. Agama in particular for his dexterity and ability to successfully complete his programme with a dissertation topic that was almost inconceivable at the time. She praised his accomplishment as a testament to his originality and resilience. Prof. Amali further described it as proof that every research topic is researchable if the researcher is able to intellectually and convincingly present the facts.

Also delivering a vote of thanks, Dr. Kenneth Diyoke, a lecturer in the Economics Department, appreciated the event’s organizers and participants for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the event. He appreciated the presenters for their robust presentations and encouraged them to keep the flag of the Department flying in their respective places of work.
