A Graduate of this Department can take up roles where he/she:

  • Determines the most efficient way to drill for and extract oil and natural gas at a particular well or field
  • Oversees drilling operations and resolves operating problems
  • Determines how to stimulate an underperforming well
  • Develops new drilling tools and techniques to find new ways to extract residual oil from older wells
  • Uses simulation software to evaluate and forecast a reservoir’s potential as well as give information that enhances management’s decision-making process.

Specific jobs titles related to this degree include Reservoir Engineer, Drilling Engineer, Production Engineer, Geoscientist, Geophysicist, and Petro physicist. P Petroleum & Gas Engineers can be found working in numerous areas of industry. The areas defined as the petroleum and gas industry by the Industry Strategy and Working Group are Refining, Petrochemicals, Energy & Power, and Oil & Gas.
