Biography

Prof. Bata Mtaku Gali is a Professor of General Surgery, Head of the Department of Surgery, and Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences at Nile University of Nigeria. He served as a Sabbatical Professor from April 2021 to May 2022 before joining Nile University as full-time staff in June 2022 on leave of absence from the University of Maiduguri. Previously, he was Professor and Head of the Department of Surgery at the University of Maiduguri from 2019 to 2021.

Prof. Gali coordinated the Postgraduate (Residency) Training Program at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital between 2019 and 2021 and the Department of Surgery’s Postgraduate (Residency) Training Program. Additionally, he served as the Level Coordinator for MBBS 600 from 2014 to 2019.

Currently, Prof. Gali is the Principal Investigator for the Maiduguri site of the African Research Group of Oncology (ARGO), involved in collaborative national and international research on breast and colorectal cancer. He is a trainer in General Surgery for residents and teaches undergraduate medical students. He also examines at both the membership and fellowship levels of the West African College of Surgeons.

Prof. Gali has over 60 published articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the BORNO Medical Journal and a peer reviewer for many local and international journals, including the Journal of Global Oncology (JGO). He provides clinical services for both inpatients and outpatients in General Surgery.
