Engr. Dr. Adekunle A. Adeleke is a distinguished academic and researcher in the field of Mechanical Engineering. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, in 2009, 2013, and 2018, respectively. In 2016, Dr. Adeleke was awarded the TWAS-CSIR Pre-doctoral Sandwich fellowship, where he collaborated with Dr. Dayanand Paswan and Dr. M. Malathi at the CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory in Jamshedpur, India. Their work on developing and characterizing hybrid fuel briquettes from lean-grade coal and torrefied biomass resulted in a patent from the Federal Republic of Nigeria and produced fourteen articles in top journals, including those hosted by Nature, Elsevier, Springer, Wiley Online, and Taylor and Francis.
With over 180 articles published in reputable international journals and six book chapters, Dr. Adeleke has made significant contributions to his field. He holds four patents from the Federal Republic of Nigeria for his research efforts. His ongoing collaboration with Dr. Paswan focuses on utilizing torrefied biomass and lean-grade coal.
Dr. Adeleke formerly served as the Chair of the Sustainable Development Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) Research Team at Landmark University and as the Postgraduate Coordinator for the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the same institution. Currently, he is a Senior Lecturer and the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja. He also leads the Waste to Wealth Research Group at Nile University.
Recognized as one of the top 50 researchers in Nigeria based on scholarly output by SciVal, Dr. Adeleke has been the top researcher at Nile University since 2022. In 2023, his Waste to Wealth Research Team won the award for the Best Research Team among the 15 institutions within Honoris United Universities across Africa. The team’s current project involves producing direct reduced iron from Nigerian iron ore using lean-grade coal and torrefied biomass, a groundbreaking effort that could transform Nigeria’s iron and steel industry.
Dr. Adeleke is actively involved in teaching courses such as Strength of Materials, Applied Mechanics, Extractive Metallurgy, Manufacturing Technology, and Iron and Steel Making Processes. He is a member of the Nigerian Young Academy, the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMECHE), and a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
