Biography

Dr. Aghahowa obtained his MBBS degree from the University of Benin, Benin City, in 1987. He began his medical career with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in 1989 as a Medical Officer. He later pursued residency training in surgery at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, from 1997 to 2001, where he earned the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in General Surgery. He then proceeded to the UK for advanced surgical training, obtaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (FRCSI) in 2003.

Upon returning to Nigeria, Dr. Aghahowa advanced through various roles, eventually becoming Chief Consultant Surgeon, Medical Director of Asokoro District Hospital, Director of Clinical Services at the Health Management Board, and Acting General Manager/CEO at different times. In February 2020, he joined Nile University of Nigeria as a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) staff member, retiring from FCTA services in November 2020.

Dr. Aghahowa has published numerous papers and attended various international conferences, including at the Harvard School of Public Health in the US, and others in the UK, Singapore, China, Poland, and Tanzania. In 2012, he attended the Senior Executive Course 34 at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, earning membership in the prestigious institute (mni).

He is actively involved in the surgical community, serving as a member of the court of examiners, a resource person for various revision courses, and a member of the accreditation team for the West African College of Surgeons. Currently, Dr. Aghahowa is the coordinator of surgery residency training for the FCTA. He is known for his exceptional surgical skills and dedication as a surgical tutor.
