Biography

Beatrice Chinyelu Okonkwo holds a PhD (Development Communication) and M.Sc. in Mass Communication from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, a B.Sc. in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and an M.Sc. in Public Administration from the University of Benin.

She is a Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication and joined the department from the public sector where she had served for several years in different capacities as a Permanent Secretary, Executive Secretary and Director in the Information Sector. Her vast diverse experiences from the public sector span a gamut of knowledge and practice in the management of government information, membership of educational institution governing councils, diplomacy, and public administration.

Dr. Okonkwo has served in various positions at State, National and International levels with organizations such as the WHO, JAMB, NCWS, UNFPA, NIPR, the IIJ and is a member of the National Institute (MNI) having attended the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

Her research interests are in the areas of Development Communication, Health Communication, Gender Studies, Public Relations, and similar areas of Media Studies.
