Biography

Dr. Aminu Mai is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the College of Health Sciences, Nile University of Nigeria. He graduated with an MBBS degree from the College of Medicine, University of Maiduguri, in 1983. Dr. Mai completed his residency training at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in Benin City from 1986 to 1991, earning Membership of the National Postgraduate Medical College and Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

In 1991, Dr. Mai was appointed Lecturer I and Honorary Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at the College of Medicine, University of Maiduguri, and the University Teaching Hospital. In 1994, he received a Commonwealth Scholarship for six months of training in Assisted Reproductive Technology, Tubal Surgery, and Foetal Medicine at Hammersmith Hospital and Queen Charlotte’s Hospital in London, UK. That same year, he was nominated for the Young Gynaecologists Award by the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), allowing him to attend the FIGO International Congress in Montreal, Canada, and participate in a Preceptorship at Northwestern University Hospital, Ontario. In 1996, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer at the University of Maiduguri.

Dr. Mai transitioned into healthcare management and administration when he was appointed the pioneer Medical Director/CEO of the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, Adamawa State, from 1998 to 2006. In 2007, he became the pioneer General Manager/CEO of the FCT Hospitals Management Board. After completing his tenure in 2020, Dr. Mai returned to academics as an Associate Professor at the College of Health Sciences, Nile University of Nigeria.

Dr. Mai is a member of several professional associations, including the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON), Association for Fertility and Reproductive Health (ARFH), and the Medical & Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), among others.
