Biography

Dr. Onyegbutulem HC is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, Nile University of Nigeria. He is the pioneer head of the Department of Internal Medicine. Previously, he was a lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine at Bingham University, where he was also one of the pioneer staff.

Dr. Onyegbutulem obtained his MBBS degree from the University of Ibadan. After completing his internship and national service, he pursued residency training in Internal Medicine at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, specializing in Endocrine, Diabetes, and Metabolic Medicine. He also holds a Master’s in HIV Medicine from the Institute of Human Virology of Nigeria (IHVN). His residency training and clinical exposure included stints at the Department of Endocrinology at Heinrich-Heine University/Hospital and the German Diabetes Institute in Düsseldorf, Carl Gustav Carus Hospital in Dresden, Germany, and the Department of Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa.

Dr. Onyegbutulem received several study grants, including the Albert Reynold Fellowship, the Robert Turner Grant to the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM) at the University of Oxford, and the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes Fellowship. He also attended the European Association for the Study of Diabetes/American Diabetes Association/International Diabetes Federation Advanced Postgraduate Course for the Study of Diabetes in Yaoundé, Cameroon, and Finland.

He serves as the sub-editor of the Nile Journal of Health Sciences (NJHS) and is a reviewer for many other medical journals.
