The objective of the Diploma in Accounting is to:

  • Develop students to become effective managers and leaders in the business world.
  • Familiarize the students with the best Accounting and Financial Management policies.
  • Develop the skills to apply information technology in Accounting and Financial Management functions.
  • Prepare them to use accounting software in the business world.
  • Provide methods for excellent business communication.

You'll study an extensive range of modules looking at important topics in finance and accounting, focusing on those that meet your specific interests. We'll look at the financial challenges faced by businesses in today's environment, providing you with the perfect foundation to reach new heights in your professional development. Get an understanding of your contribution to financial leadership and move on to big things in your career.


You will study the following modules:

Year 1

  • Principles of Accounting
  • Principles of Management
  • Principles of Finance
  • Quantitative techniques
  • Research Methodology
  • Principles of Microeconomics
  • Elective 1 ( Public Sector Accounting)

The students will be exposed to global accounting practices along with tools for financial managerial decision making. The students will undertake courses in specialized areas of accounting and finance, to enhance competencies.

Entry Requirements

  1. University Matriculation of 5 credit passes including English & Mathematics at O-Level; and
  2. Approved Bachelor’s Degrees in Economics with at least 3rd class division; or
  3. Higher National Diploma (HND) and/or professional qualifications cognate to Economics with not less than upper credit.

How will I be taught?

The programme is delivered through lectures, seminars, workshops, business games, simulation exercises and directed through independent study. The students use a range of accessible supplementary texts, articles, reports and other designated sources, including business games, simulations and websites.

Career support

Students can develop a career in sectors ranging from Consultancy, IT and ITES industry, Market Research, Stock Trading, Banking, Insurance, FMCG and other corporates.

Further Study

Opportunities for course progression include MSc Economics and PhD Economics.

Fees and Finance

In 2020/2021 the full-time tuition fee postgraduate students on this course will be N1,200,000 (this is the total fee for the programme).
