Students will be provided with the opportunity to develop essential industry desirable transferable skills such as critical thinking, analysis, problem solving and IT.

The programme comprises a taught component followed by a longer research phase. Taught modules allow the students to broaden, as well as deepen, their knowledge of research methods at the same time as undertaking their own research and developing a set of transferable professional skills. Doctoral researchers will be capable of analysing a range of data using a range of qualitative and quantitative techniques. They will be able to explain theories underlying different approaches to social science research.

As a PhD student, you will be required to be highly motivated, well organised, prepared to learn your subject in depth, and able to engage constructively and critically with a range of academic research related to your topic to complete an independent research project.


You will study the following modules:

Analytical Methods in Engineering

This course introduces postgraduate PhD students to the essential analytical methods needed to solve Electrical and Electronics Engineering problems; The goal is to substantially

broaden the analytical and computational horizons of the students, and thereby enable them to solve practical engineering design problems and perform research in the field

Computational Intelligence Technique

Students will study logic control, neural networks and genetic algorithms and applications to control systems.

Advanced Research and Development Technique

The aim of the course is to provide students with the methodological skills necessary for them to carry out independent research. Throughout the year, methodological and design considerations are integrated with statistical techniques.


This module prepares students to write research papers and confidently present in class.

Entry Requirements

  1. University Matriculation of 5 credit passes including English, Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry at O-Level; and
  2. Bachelor’s Degrees in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) with at least 2nd class lower division.
  3. Master’s degree, with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale which includes masters research thesis; and
  4. Candidates must demonstrate adequate intellectual capacity, maturity and effective decision making and problem solving potentials.

How will I be taught?

We aim to develop your knowledge, understanding, analysis and design abilities principally through lectures and tutorials. You’ll be supported in developing your practical and design skills through laboratory work involving problem solving assignments, practical exercises and mini projects.

In 2020/21 the full-time tuition fee postgraduate students on this course will be N1,500,000 Per Session
