Nile University’s Triumphant NUGA Athletes Receive Heroes’ Welcome

March 31, 2022— The Management of Nile University of Nigeria hosted its all-conquering representatives at the recently concluded NUGA Games to a 5-star dinner at the luxurious Sheraton Hotel to celebrate them for their impressive performances at the Games, which culminated in a historic 3rd placed finish.

The event was graced by Nile University’s Vice-Chancellor (Prof. Dilli Dogo) and other members of the Senior Leadership team, including the Registrar (Mr. David Olowola), Prof. Ebele Amali (Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies), Arch. Nike Bamisaye (Director, Facilities and Physical Planning; Chairman, Sports), Prof. Ofili Ugwudioha (Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences), Dr. Fausat Aleshinloye (Director, Student Services), to name a few.

Delivering the event’s keynote speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dogo, expressed his pride in the accomplishments of the athletes on the pitch and their conduct off it during the NUGA Games. He stated, “It gives me a special sense of pride and fulfillment for us to be seated here to celebrate your excellence. When I addressed you before the tournament, I knew (and stated as much) that you were all going for gold. Throughout the competition, I received impressive feedback about your exploits on the pitch and your behavior off it. You proved yourselves good ambassadors of Nile University. As a result, the Management deemed it fit to celebrate you in a grand way.”

The Vice-Chancellor further praised the student-athletes for embodying Nile University’s (and by extension, Honoris United Universities’) commitment to excellence in academics, social, and other aspects through their performances at the Games. He reiterated the University’s dedication to providing them the necessary support to equip them (and all students) for success in their future endeavors, be it in professional sports or otherwise.

Speaking on behalf of the sports team, the University’s Sports Chairman, Arch. Nike Bamisaye thanked the Management of Nile University for the immense financial and moral support it provided the sports team before, during, and after the Games. This support, she continued, which included the entire team being flown to Lagos by plane, served as the platform for the athletes’ exploits at the NUGA Games. Arch. Bamisaye assured the Management of the Sports Department’s relentless dedication to taking Nile University to the apex of Nigerian University sports.

The event featured the presentation of medals and certificates of commendation to the athletes and coaches by the Vice-Chancellor.
