Nile University of Nigeria signed an MoU with the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) on May 20th, 2021. Present at the event was a team from Nile University comprising Prof. Osman Nuri Aras (Vice-Chancellor), Prof. Abdurrahman Isik (Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Mr. Murat Akyildiz (Chief Student Services Officer), Mr. Sadiq Maigari (Director, Center for Lifelong Learning). The OSMA team included Brigadier General Maikemo Abdullahi (President, OSMA), Commodore Mohammad Wabi (SA Media), Group Captain M. Abanum (Deputy Director of Sports, NAF), Colonel C. Okonkwo (Exec. Sec. CISM, Nigeria).
The event, which took place at the OSMA office, commenced with an opening speech by Brigadier General Abdullahi, who thanked the Nile University team for making the collaboration possible. The MoU between both organizations, he stated, will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between education and sports. Brigadier General Abdullahi further stated that the partnership between Nile University and OSMA—which entails placing the Nile logo on the OSMA flag, including Nile’s sports teams in OSMA games, and providing technological training to the University to improve its sports department— will help to generate awareness for Nile University and its sports department.
In response to the OSMA President’s speech, the Nile University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aras, stated that Nile University is equipped with the required resources to provide OSMA with the necessary support to ensure the success of the partnership. Prof. Aras also expressed his hope for more collaborations between both organizations on other projects that will provide opportunities for women in sports and promote peace in Nigeria and Africa.
The meeting ended with the official signing of the MoU.
