The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed mni MFR, stated that Nile University is in a strategic position to take advantage of the Commission’s recently finalized transnational education policy designed to attract more foreign students to Nigeria and drive the reinvention of the country’s university system. He said this while hosting Nile University’s senior management team at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja recently.
The Nile University delegation was at the Commission on a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary to appreciate the strong partnership that exists between Nile University and the Commission. The delegation included Mr. John Vermaaten (Pro-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer), Prof. Dilli Dogo (Vice-Chancellor), Prof. Dileep Kumar (Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Mr. Lateef Kareem (Chief Financial Officer), Mr. Jonathan Okharedia (Chief Operating Officer; Director, Human Resources), Prof. Saleh Abdullahi (Director, Academic Planning), and Mr. Gerald Osugo (Director, Business Development and Strategy).
Addressing the guests, following the introductory remark by Nile University’s Vice-Chancellor, who stated the purpose of the visit, Prof. Rasheed stated that the University is one of the tertiary institutions with the greatest potential to drive the Commission’s efforts to promote the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within Nigerian universities. According to him, Nile University’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation, international faculty, and high-quality facilities makes it an attractive destination and partner for foreign students and universities respectively. This makes Nile University the flagship university for the recently approved transnational education project which is aimed at further improving the international visibility of Nigerian universities.
Prof. Rasheed expressed his hope that Nile University under the Honoris United Universities will continue to remain the flagship university for other Nigerian universities to emulate and assured the University’s management that the Commission is happy to provide Nile University with every support to succeed in its drive to provide quality education. Responding, Nile University’s Pro-Chancellor, Mr. John Vermaaten, stated that Honoris United Universities’ plan for Nile University is to completely transform it into a world-class academic institution in terms of infrastructure and innovative teaching methods with the best student outcomes.
Mr. Vermaaten stated that since its acquisition of Nile University in 2020, Honoris has continuously strived to raise the University’s profile by implementing global best practices in areas of teaching, real estate, and collaboration. He thanked Prof. Rasheed for his faith in Nile University and assured him that the University will always strive to justify the confidence reposed in it.
