June 9, 2022— Nile University signed a memorandum of understanding with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). The MoU sets the stage for Nile University to become a flagship institution for ACCA in Nigeria. The MOU also provides the opportunity for Nile University to become a training center for ACCA qualifications, facilitating the provision of on-demand CBT testing and collaborations on professional training for ACCA members. Furthermore, the partnership strategically positions Nile University’s students to earn a dual degree from both institutions at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The MoU signing ceremony took place at the Nile University campus and was graced by the leadership teams of both organizations. The Nile University team included Prof. Dilli Dogo (Vice-Chancellor), Prof. Dileep Kumar (Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Mr. David Olowola (Registrar), Mr. Lateef Kareem (Bursar & Chief Financial Officer), Professor Ofili Ugwudioha (Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences), Dr. Umar Abbas Ibrahim (HOD, Department of Management), and Mr. Gerald Osugo (Director, Business Development and Strategy), to name a few. The ACCA delegation comprised Mr. Tom Isibor (Country Manager) and Mr. Etisong Ekerenduh (Business Relationship Manager).
In his remarks, ACCA’s Country Manager, Mr. Isibor expressed happiness about the partnership, stating that ACCA views Nile University as an ideal strategic partner because of the University’s commitment to excellence as reflected in its facilities, highly qualified staff, and academic innovations. This, he continued, made the University a valuable ally in ACCA’s mission to build an ecosystem that promotes capacity development and employability.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of Nile University, Prof. Dogo stated that Nile University is always happy to cultivate partnerships with global organizations like ACCA as part of its efforts to drive capacity development and student employability. He assured Mr. Isibor that the University is equipped with the facilities and talent to become an effective training and exam center for ACCA.
Also commenting, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Nile University, Prof. Kumar stated that professional certifications are crucial contributors to employability that are lacking among Nigerian graduates. Providing Nile University, he added, access to ACCA’s certification would prove invaluable in enhancing their students’ industry readiness.
Nile University’s Bursar and CFO, Mr. Lateef Kareem, expressed his excitement about the MoU, stressing the personal pride he derived from the partnership as a Fellow of the ACCA. He stated that financial literacy is critical to the success of every venture, citing the numerous failures suffered by startups in Nigeria due to poor financial management owing to the lack of financial knowledge. Thus, Mr. Kareem stated, the MoU with ACCA and the consequent boost to the financial education of Nile University’s students will help enhance their employability and entrepreneurial mindset.
