Oluwabusayo Ifonlaja, a 500L Law student at Nile University, emerged in second place in the essay contest held by the Nigerian Branch of the International Law Association- (ILA).
Oluwabusayo’s paper was announced as first runner-up during the 6th Annual Conference of the International Law Association(ILA) which was themed “The Role of International Law in the Regulation of New Technologies” held in Lagos, Nigeria.
The International Law Association (ILA) had earlier in February called for submissions of essays from its young members in line with the theme of the conference. Oluwabusayo’s 16-page essay took an analytical and expository approach to the critical role of international law in the regulation of new technologies, torch lighting what new technology entails, the debate over the existence of International IT law, the pros and cons, regulatory methodology, challenges, and proposed solutions to the identified problems.
During the 6th Annual Conference of the International Law Association (ILA), the essay written by Oluwabusayo received an award and was announced first runner-up. The awards were presented to the winners at the conference dinner by The Eminent Chief Bayo Ojo SAN and Dr. Edward Kwakwa Assistant Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO, in Lagos. Over 300 people attended the 6th ILA conference, including notable experts, stakeholders, and students of international law.
