The Director-General of the Council of Legal Education (CLE) and the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayattu Chiroma (SAN), stated that Nile University has the potential to be the Council’s flagship university in Abuja. He said this while hosting Nile University’s senior management team at the Nigerian Law School Headquarters in Abuja on May 9, 2022.
The Nile University’s delegation comprised Mr. John Vermaaten (Pro-Chancellor), Prof. Dilli Dogo (Vice-Chancellor), Prof. Dileep Kumar (Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Mr. Lateef Kareem (Chief Financial Officer), Mr. Jonathan Okharedia (Chief Operating Officer; Director, Human Resources), Prof. Saleh Abdullahi (Director, Academic Planning), and Mr. Gerald Osugo (Director, Business Development and Strategy).
The visit to the Council was prompted by the recent approval of the postgraduate Law programs (LLM and Ph.D.) of the University by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and to also appreciate the Council for increasing the admission quota for Nile University’s undergraduate Law program from 50 to 75. Addressing the delegation, the Director-General commended Nile University for putting in place top-notch facilities to support the provision of high-quality legal education for students. He stated that Nile University’s facilities and enormous prospects for capacity building greatly impressed the Council’s accreditation team during their last visit to the University, which led to the increase in the quota of the institution’s Law program.
Prof. Chiroma congratulated Nile University on its newly approved postgraduate Law programs and expressed his excitement about the opportunity it provides the University to extend the reach of its high-quality legal education to postgraduate students. He assured Nile University of the Council’s willingness to provide the necessary support for the University to maintain the highest standards of education and encouraged them to open other courses.
The Vice-Chancellor of Nile University, Prof. Dilli Dogo, expressed his gratitude to the Council for continuously supporting and maintaining the growth of legal education in the country and sought for its increased support and partnership to assist the University to achieve its lofty goals. He pledged the University’s commitment to continuous upgrade in academic quality and adherence to all relevant regulations to continue to earn the Council’s confidence. He also solicited for further increase in admission quota for Nile University’s undergraduate Law programs.
The Pro-Chancellor of Nile University, Mr. John Vermaaten, emphasized the importance of Nile University’s affiliation with Honoris United Universities, the first and largest pan-African private higher education network, stating that Honoris is poised to position Nile University as one of the best universities in the country. Mr. Vermaaten pledged to work with all regulatory institutions to enable Nile University achieve its objectives.
Responding to the Pro-Chancellor, the Director-General assured Nile University that the Council is willing to partner and support the University to achieve the highest levels of legal education. Echoing the Vice-Chancellor’s sentiments, the Dean of Nile University’s Law faculty, Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Zuru reiterated the desire of the University to enhance its relationship with the Council toward exploring new ways to boost its academic offerings and improve legal education in the country at large. Prof. Zuru stated that Nile University’s newly approved Postgraduate Law programs were strategically designed to provide students with first-class academic learning experiences and open up high-quality postgraduate law opportunities to Nigerians.
