The Nile University basketball team, Nile Spartans, emerged as champions of the Abuja City Basketball League (ACBL) on September 5th, 2021, following a 60-54 victory over Hot Coal basketball club in the closely fought and nail-biting final. The Nile Spartans, which was the only university team in the grueling five-month, three-round marathon league which featured 18 teams, won the gold medal on the back of an impressive 100 percent winning streak in the final round of the competition.
In addition to the league title, the Nile Spartans also won impressive individual awards, including MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the tournament, Best Captain and Point Guard position, Best Center position, and Best 3-point shooter. With the ACBL gold medal, the relentless Nile Spartans completes an impressive and highly successful three-month period which saw them emerge as Savannah Conference and National Division 1 Basketball champions, thereby earning a spot in next season’s Nigeria Basketball Premier League.
