Nigeria’s Federal Govt Partners Nile University to Launch Aviation Varsity

All is set for the take-off of the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), as the Federal Government of Nigeria finalized the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nile University of Nigeria to begin academic activities for the aerospace university in the country.

After a series of head-to-head meetings between the Federal Government and the Management of Nile University which started in May 2022 to advance talks on developing a curriculum for the government-approved aviation Institution, Nile University of Nigeria will commence academic activities with courses in BSc Aviation Business and BSc Meteorology.

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika stated during the signing of an MoU with Nile University that the approved AAAU courses will take off in September this year at the Nile University and will pave the way for the growth and development of the aviation industry in Nigeria, adding that the aerospace university would address research and development deficit in the aviation sector.

The Minister further stated that Nile University  will provide support for the undergraduate programme for the first two years and it is expected that more research and collaboration will be established between the AAAU and the Nile University of Nigeria.

“I’m happy to say that the academic brief has been developed, the management staff have been employed and of course, it would be governed by the federal government but will be owned and operated by the private sector through PPP arrangement.”

“The university will run both physical and online courses. These days, universities are turning into virtual and we will begin with the Bsc Aviation Business and Bsc Meteorology and of course, continue to grow.  Also, not too far from now, we will be getting approval from NUC to commence Masters of Science in Aviation Management.…” the Minister stated.

The Vice Chancellor of Nile University of Nigeria, Prof. Dilli Dogo promised to support the aviation university with all it requires for a smooth take-off.

Prof. Dogo commended the minister for the initiative stating that “The minister and his team were determined to see that the university would take off as soon as possible.

“The initial understanding which is subsisting is the fact that 100 and 200 and part of 300 level academic activities take place here at Nile University and the rest will take place in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and part of it will take place in the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) Zaria, Kaduna State.

“To us at Nile University, we are privileged and indeed pleased to be part of this momentous occasion and we look forward to actively participating in the delivery of this brand new university that seeks to impact Nigerians positively and indeed the African continent…” Prof. Dogo concluded.
