Nile University’s basketball team, Nile Spartans, are champions of the Savannah Conference in the ongoing Total National Division 1 League. The Nile Spartans achieved this feat by defeating the Safety Knights of Abuja by 74-57 points on June 30th, rounding off their conference campaign with a perfect record of three wins from three games.
As Savannah Conference champions, the Nile Spartans will be competing against 19 of the country’s best basketball teams in next season’s Nigeria Basketball Premier League—the highest professional basketball league in the nation. In the short term, conquering the Savannah Conference has given the Nile Spartans a spot in the National Finals of the Total National Division 1 League, where eight teams will compete for the title of Division 1 champions. The Nile Spartans commence their National Finals campaign against the Edo Beads on July 8th.
