Nile University of Nigeria Hosts School Leadership Program

Nile University of Nigeria’s Student Affairs department in collaboration with the African Youth Leadership Department Roundtable Initiative organized a Student Leadership Program on February 28. The conference, themed “Characters of an Effective Leader,” featured several notable speakers like Tope Fasua (world renowned economist and 2019 presidential candidate), Hon. Bamidele Salem ( member of the Federal House of Representatives, Ede constituency, Ogun state), Ndi Kato (foremost youth and women’s right advocate and founder Dindari Foundation ), and Dr. Al Kali ( Nile University’s representative), to name a few. The event was moderated by Grace Josiah (counselling and educational psychologist).

In her speech, titled “Limitless,” Ndi Kato urged students, especially the female students to develop the “nothing is impossible” mindset. According to her, those who adopt this attitude are no longer hampered by the usual fear of failure and, consequently, find it easier to take the first step toward the realization of their dreams. She also encouraged the students to acquire relevant practical skills to enable them to thrive in the highly competitive contemporary society.

Following Ndi Kato’s speech, Hon. Bamidele Salem spoke about the importance dedication in achieving success as well as the four drivers of dedication, which are vision, written goals, passion, and integrity.

Subsequently, Tope Fasua delivered a presentation on the importance of a strong character in leadership. According to him, leadership is influence and, to be effective, one needs to possess a strong character to withstand the influence that comes with leadership. He also charged students to be good followers as it is impossible to become a great leader without, first, being a good follower.

The event ended with a question and answer session during which the speakers fielded the questions of the audience.
