Marked Documentary Screening—A Program on Filmmaking

Nile University’s Mass Communication department hosted a program titled “Marked Documentary – Screening & Panel Discussion” on May 25th. The event’s special guest of honor was Nadine Ibrahim (CEO, Naila Media). Other attendees included the program’s Guest Speaker, Ibrahim Daddy (Production Manager, Naila Media), Prof. Osman Koroglu (HoD, Mass Communication Department, Nile University), Prof. Gylych Jelilov (Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Nile University).

The aim of the program was to expose the University’s Mass Communication students to filmmaking by leveraging the vast experiences of Nadine Ibrahim and Ibrahim Daddy in the field.  The event commenced with the screening of a documentary on scarification in Nigeria titled “Marked”.

According to Nadine, “Marked” is a product of a two-part project which involves a photo and video exhibition and documentary. The purpose of the project, she continued, is to document the various scarifications done in Nigeria. Subsequently, a discussion session commenced during which Nadine and gave some insight into movie making. According to Nadine, making a great movie, documentary, or film requires diligence, taking appropriate lessons, gathering experience from different mentors, and choosing the form of photography that best suits one’s interest, be it filmmaking, acting, production, or directing.

The event ended with a question-and-answer session during which Nadine and Daddy fielded the questions of the audience.
