Faculty of Engineering Nile University Holds 2020/2021 Student Work Experience Program

The Faculty of Engineering, Nile University of Nigeria conducted the Students Work Experience Program (SWEP) for the 2020/2021 academic session from July 26th-August 20th, 2021. This program covered a broad range of practical knowledge in all major areas of the Engineering field in accordance with the mandatory requirements of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) for Engineering Undergraduate students in Nigerian universities. The program which was well attended by the 200 and 300 level undergraduate students of the Faculty of Engineering afforded them the opportunity to hone practical skills in general workshop and safety practices in the use of tools and equipment as obtainable in the real world of engineering practices. The program, despite its practical intensity, was hitch-free and no mishap was recorded, thanks to the entire team comprising seasoned Engineering Technologists and Engineers with Lecturers and members of the school’s Technical team.

The five departments of the Faculty namely; Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Petroleum & Gas Engineering all participated.

The practical activities carried out are:

  • Electrical wiring installation and home automation for residential houses
  • Computer networking
  • Computer programing
  • Carpentry and furniture works
  • Homebuilding and masonry works
  • Metal fabrication and welding works
  • Refrigeration and air-conditioning works
  • Plant and automobile maintenance.

The program climaxed with an exhibition of the products produced in all the activities mentioned above. In attendance was the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Osman Nuri Aras, accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, Prof. Abdurrahman Isik, and other members of the management. The practical activities were conducted around the engineering workshop, the venue of the exhibition by a team from the Faculty of Engineering led by the Faculty Dean, Prof. Steve Adeshina and heads of the various departments. In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, who expressed satisfaction with the level of students’ involvement and staff dedication, charged the students to consolidate on the practical skills learned to break frontiers in research and innovation while promising to assist in providing all necessary resources that will help in actualizing their dreams.
