7th Convocation Lecture at Nile University

Nile University of Nigeria held her 7th convocation lecture on October 25. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Isa Ali Pantami (Honourable Minister of Communications). The event was attended by several distinguished individuals, including Prof. Abubakar Rasheed (Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission), who represented Mallam  Adamu Adamu (Honourable Minister of Education and Chairman of the convocation lecture) at the event, Mr. Solomon Dalung (Former Minister of Youth and Sports), to name a few.

The lecture was titled “ICT as a Catalyst for Nigeria’s Economic Development in the 21st Century.” During the presentation, Dr. Pantami stressed the importance of Nigeria’s young population to its technological growth. According to him, “with an average age of just over 18 years, Nigeria has a potential critical mass of ‘digital natives’ that can transform the country into a regional and global ICT power house.” As a member of this important group, he continued, the Nile University of Nigeria’s graduating class of 2019 had an important role to play in the development of the country into a continental and, subsequently, global ICT powerhouse.

In particular, Dr. Pantami urged the graduands to utilize their time and youthful energy in coming up with disruptive ideas to propel the country to the next level. To this effect, he challenged the graduands to start thinking of innovative ways of using social media for revenue generation.

Following Dr. Pantami’s lecture was a brief address by Prof. Rasheed, who urged academics and academic institutions to consistently update their lessons and curriculum respectively to ensure that the knowledge being imparted to students are relevant to the needs of the contemporary society.

The event concluded with the presentation of awards to Dr. Pantami and Mallam Adamu Adamu, who was represented by Prof. Abubakar Rasheed.
